Hiking trip around Beaufort - in the footsteps of Carlo Hemmer*

The seventh edition of the traditional hike in the footsteps of Carlo Hemmer*, organised by the Luxembourgish youth hostelling association in cooperation with the Carlo Hemmer foundation, will take place on 3rd and 4th of October 2020 in the Mullerthal region – Luxembourg’s Little Switzerland. The guided tour starts at the youth hostel Beaufort and leads in the direction of Grundhof, Berdorf and Eppeldorf. Two rather difficult day hikes as well as ascents and descents and beautiful views await the participants. After the tour, a barbecue will be organised at the youth hostel Beaufort, where the participants will also spend the night.

Please register in advance. The participants will be divided into two groups (group at intermediate speed and a sporty group at high speed).

Length of the tours:

Day 1: group at intermediate speed: 20 km / sporty group: 26 km
Day 2: group at intermediate speed: 18 km / sporty group: 23 km

* Fee reduction for Hostelling members

Included in the price: guided tours (2 day hikes), 1 overnight stay in a dormitory, breakfast, 1 dinner and 2 lunch packs with a reusable bottle.

* Carlo Hemmer (1913-1988) from Ettelbrück was an important economist from Luxembourg. Alongside his many professional endeavours both in and outside of Luxembourg, Hemmer had always been a strong supporter of the youth and therefore also of Luxembourg’s youth hostel network. Upon his passing, half of Hemmer’s wealth was donated to the ‘Fondation Lëtzebuerger Jugendherbergen’ founded in 1986 and later renamed to ‘Carlo Hemmer Foundation’. The aim of the foundation is to receive funds and manage the foundation’s assets in order to support youth hostels, social tourism, sporting events and educational activities – independent of political, social and religious aspects.
