Artistic residency at Trifolion 22-23

For this project, Victor Kraus (Marimba) is surrounding himself with 8 established musicians from the Luxembourgish classical scene. Going by the name of VictorKrausGroup, the musicians are developing a hybrid project based on Canto Ostinato (1976) composed by the Dutch composer Simeon ten Holt. The project, which began in 2017 as part of an NDR television production at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, is being developed on an ongoing basis, culminating in an album recorded in 2023 as a tribute to the composer's 100th birthday, as part of an artist residency at TRIFOLION Echternach.

Simeon ten Holt uses the term 'genetic code' to describe the rhythmic basis of his work. A quintolet* generates Canto Ostinato by running through 106 cells repeated ad libitum. These 106 cells transform, periodically generating new musical material.

Canto Ostinato is a unique experience at each performance: each musician chooses which voice and which note of the rhythm will be played and in which nuance. The project will stretch your ears and make you dream, meditate and discover a new musical treasure.
