Chamber Orchestra of Stuttgart - Purcell & Nirvana

On 5 April 1994, at the age of 27, Nirvana star Kurt Cobain took his own life. The shock wave not only hit the music world, but an entire generation. After the brightly coloured 80s, Nirvana songs such as "Smells Like Teen Spirit" or "Come as You Are" summed up the attitude to life in the 90s. Without wanting to, Kurt Cobain, the vulnerable rebel, had become an icon of his time.

The hype surrounding the album "Nevermind" ultimately became too much for him. It stood in stark contrast to what Cobain was actually looking for while fleeing his demons: redemption through music. The music of Henry Purcell, celebrated during his lifetime as England's greatest baroque composer, also sings of loneliness and sensitivity, death wish and hunger for life, hell and paradise.

Following the huge success of "Händel meets Hendrix", the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra continues the series and merges Kurt Cobain's grunge metal punk rock and Purcell's baroque in a musical nirvana.
