In 1822, Franz Schubert wrote one of his dreams. In this concert, Nicolas Ellis and James Atkinson, with the Luxembourg Philharmonic, take ideas from this dream to take us on a journey into the composer's imagination, with orchestrations by Ian Cusson, Berlioz, Mottl and Reger.

In 2005, he moved to the Philharmonie Luxembourg, with which he has formed a single legal entity since 2012. Its 99 musicians from some twenty countries are conducted by Gustavo Gimeno, who is celebrating his tenth and last time at the head of the orchestra this season. His predecessors were Henri Pensis, Carl Melles, Louis de Froment, Leopold Hager (appointed Honorary Chief in 2021), David Shallon, Bramwell Tovey and Emmanuel Krivine.

Luxembourg Philharmonic. is subsidised by the Ministry of Culture of the Grand Duchy and financially supported by the City of Luxembourg. The orchestra is sponsored by Banque de Luxembourg, BGL BNP Paribas and Mercedes-Benz. Since 2010, the cello "Le Luxembourgeois", made by Matteo Goffriller, has been available to the orchestra thanks to the generous support of BGL BNP Paribas. Since the 2022/23 season, a violin by Giuseppe Guarneri filius Andreae and one by Gennaro Gagliano have been played in the orchestra, generously loaned by the Rosemarie und Hartmut Schwiering Stiftung.

Nicolas Ellis is the first guest conductor of Les Violons du Roy and the founder and artistic director of the Orchestre de l'Agora, which is celebrating its tenth anniversary this season. During the 24/25 season, he became musical director of the Orchestre National de Bretagne. Previously, he was the artistic partner of Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the Orchestre Métropolitain. This season, he makes his debuts at the Opéra de Montréal (Le Nozze di Figaro and Poppea) and the Opéra de Québec (Die Fledermaus)

as well as with the San Diego Symphony for a program entirely dedicated to Beethoven.

Recent highlights include Britten's War Requiem at the Graz Opera, Ravel's L'enfant et les sortilèges at the Opéra de Montréal, as well as symphonic engagements with the Orchestre Métropolitain, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra, and the Orchestre symphonique de Québec. For the future, debuts are planned with the Tampere Philharmonic, the Luxembourg Philharmonic and the

the Edmonton Symphony, as well as a European tour with the Resonanz Ensemble and Anna Prohaska.

British baritone James Atkinson is a graduate of the Royal College of Music Opera Studio, where he studied with Alison Wells. From September 2023, he participated in the BBC New Generation Artist Scheme in collaboration with BBC-Radio 3. Among her many awards are the Royal Over-Seas League Singers' Prize (2022), the Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards (2018), the Mozart Competition and the D'Art Prize.

British baritone James Atkinson is a graduate of the Royal College of Music Opera Studio, where he studied with Alison Wells. From September 2023, he participated in the BBC New Generation Artist Scheme in collaboration with BBC-Radio 3. Her many awards include the Royal Over-Seas League Singers' Prize (2022), the Maureen Lehane Vocal Awards (2018), the Mozart Competition, and the Audience Award at the Somerset Song Prize (2019). He made his professional debut in opera as Masetto in Don Giovanni at the Welsh National Opera in 2022.
