Daphné Souvatzi is a mezzo-soprano singer with Greek-Luxembourgish roots who grew up in a multicultural environment. As a singer and composer, she performs together with François Aria (flamenco guitarist, composer and arranger) with a repertoire of Mediterranean music that moves between classical and traditional music. In 2019, they recorded the album Del Mar al Cielo, which was praised by critics, including France Musique. The duo is regularly invited to perform on prestigious stages (Philharmonie Luxembourg, Cité de la Voix, Samos Young Artists Festival, La Seine Musicale, Festival de Musique Sacrée de Perpignan, Trinita dei Monti in Rome, Fosquets de Lithica in Menorca), with the support of SPEDIDAM, Kultur | lx - Arts Council Luxembourg and the Centre National de la Musique.
.
The duo is currently working on a second album to be released in 2026. It will include both traditional Hellenic songs (Asia Minor, Greece, Cyprus, Black Sea) and Baroque arias (Charpentier, Rameau, Monteverdi), a crossover of genres that is the real artistic hallmark of the project. The duo reinterprets baroque pieces based on the singer's training and her natural ornamentation, as well as Greek songs and flamenco pieces, which are the result of a traditional approach and the guitarist's love of contemporary harmonies, arrangements and instrumental compositions. The artistic decision: to be surrounded by musicians who come from two areas, traditional music on the one hand and baroque music on the other.
As a soloist, Daphné Souvatzi is a three-time winner of the Fondation Royaumont prize. In fall 2025, she will perform in “Les Noëls d'Orient” by Alexandros Markeas (Prix de Rome) with a mandolin orchestra conducted by Florentino Calvo. She will also sing in the performance “Barocco” by Kirill Serebrennikov, who is best known for his productions at the Paris Opera. In 2023, she embodied the Prince Charming in Massenet's Cendrillon under the direction of Marion Ladrette and performed at the Musée du Quai Branly alongside Keyvan Chemirani. Daphné also had the honor of appearing in the program “Ronaldo Villazón presents the stars of tomorrow” on Arte.
Daphné Souvatzi was trained in opera singing at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Paris. She also holds a bachelor's degree in musicology and a diploma in baroque singing (DEM) from the Sorbonne. She has taken part in master classes given by renowned figures in the world of opera such as N. Denize, R. Werner and U. Prew. Her voice enables her to sing Carmen, Dido, Cherubino and Nicklausse. Thanks to her recognized agility and high register, she excels in coloratura roles (Cenerentola, Urbain, Ariodante, Vagans).
