European Heritage Label – Saint Willibrord Heritage in Echternach
“…. is a recognition awarded by the European Union to buildings, documents, museums, archives, monuments, and events which are seen as milestones in the creation of today's Europe. The program is managed by the European Commission”. (Wikipedia)
The City of Echternach had been awarded the European Heritage Label for its Saint Willibrord Heritage.
The Saint Willibrord Heritage in Echternach includes the following:
The pan-European life and journeys of Willibrord, an early prefiguration of the European citizen of today. This includes the equally European dimension of its tangible heritage formed by the present architecture and the dramatic history of both Abbey and Basilica, telling the story of creation, destruction and reconstruction, of exchange, rupture and reconciliation between cross-border European communities.
The Echternach Scriptorium, a medieval creative hub of artistic exchanges between insular and continental Europe still to be continued today.
The living heritage of the Hopping Procession, a unique annual cross-border European life procession.
