The cultural highlights of the region

The Mullerthal Region - Luxembourg's Little Switzerland has a lot to offer in terms of culture.

Visitors to the region cannot only experience unspoilt nature, but can also take advantage of the wide range of cultural offerings, which include events, museums and castles.

The Tudor Museum in Rosport is just as much a part of the varied offer as, for example, the Abbey Museum, the Roman Villa, the Geo-Expo and of course the various castles.

A whole range of cultural events round off the offer. The world-famous Echternach Hopping Procession, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2010, takes place every year on Whit Tuesday.

Museums & exhibitions

Three of the museums in the region are located in Echternach. Not far away, in Rosport, the Tudor Museum is dedicated to electricity. Henri Owen Tudor was the inventor of lead-acid batteries.

The most famous museum in Echternach is the Abbey Museum, where facsimiles of the beautiful manuscripts made by the Benedictine monks in the Abbey can be seen. Just next to it, in the Basilica, the small Documentation Centre informs visitors about the world-famous Dancing Procession of Echternach belonging to UNESCO’S Intangible Cultural Heritage. At the lake of Echternach, you can visit the remains of a Roman villa, discovered in 1975 and the museum on the life of the Romans.

Castles and fortresses

In the Mullerthal Region, you can visit castles and ruins of castles and one castle that had remained practically intact since its construction.

The ancient castle of Beaufort was built between 1150 and 1650. At the beginning of the 20th century, the castle was restored and opened to the public already a year later. The Renaissance castle, next to it, was inhabited until 2012 and could be visited shortly after. After visiting the castles, do not miss to taste the Cassero!

Larochette castle stands on a rocky outcrop and towers majestically over the charming village of Larochette. The castle of Bourglinster can only be visited with a guide.
