One of Hemstal’s distinctive features is its location along the former route of the “Charly” narrow-gauge railway, which once connected Luxembourg City with Echternach. Today, the former railway line is used as a cycling and hiking route and connects Hemstal with other villages in the municipality.
The children’s hiking trail “In the Footsteps of Charly” also passes through the surroundings of Hemstal. The 5.5-kilometre circular trail recalls the history of the former railway line while combining nature with insights into the region’s past.
With its peaceful location away from the busier tourist centres, Hemstal offers a glimpse of the quiet, rural side of the Mullerthal Region.
