Our Lady’s Grotto of the Forced Recruits – Berdorf

Where? Breechkaul, L-6551 Berdorf

After World War II, four young men built a Virgin Mary statue in the Breechkaul as thanks for their return and in memory of six forced recruits who never came back.

In an indentation in the Breechkaul rock, four young men from Berdorf, forced recruits, erected a statue of the Virgin Mary after their return from the Second World War. The men were lucky to survive the turmoil and created this rock niche as thanks for their return and as a memorial to their unfortunate comrades.

The names of six inhabitants of the municipality of Berdorf who were forcibly conscripted and did not return from the war can be seen on the side of the grotto.

The Mother of God Grotto is located on Route 2 of the Mullerthal Trail and other hiking trails, in the forest between the village of Berdorf and the Huel Lee and Amphitheatre.
