Waldbillig is a village in the municipality of the same name, situated on a green plateau in the Mullerthal Region. As the birthplace of Luxembourg's national poet Michel Rodange, the village combines cultural heritage with varied landscapes and beautiful opportunities for hiking.
Waldbillig is situated in the municipality of the same name, on a plateau characterised by fields, meadows and forests in the Mullerthal Region – Luxembourg's Little Switzerland. The village is best known as the birthplace of Luxembourg's national poet Michel Rodange (1827–1876), whose work “De Rénert” left a lasting mark on Luxembourgish literature. A commemorative plaque at his birthplace and a bronze bust near the municipal building pay tribute to the writer.
The approximately 5.5 km long “Insektewelt” geological nature trail offers a special experience for nature lovers. Starting at the school complex in Waldbillig, this family-friendly educational trail leads through traditional orchards, alongside dry-stone walls and through forests. Along the way, visitors can learn about native insects, their habitats and the geological history of the region.
The surrounding countryside can also be explored on the approximately 6.8 km long local circular hiking trail W1. Starting in nearby Haller, the trail mainly follows paved paths through open countryside, offering wide views across the Waldbillig plateau. Along the way, the Akerblumm Regiomat vending machine offers regional products directly from local producers.
