Girsterklaus is a small locality above the Sûre valley, best known for its historic pilgrimage chapel and old cemetery. Route 1 of the Mullerthal Trail passes directly by the chapel.
Girsterklaus lies on the heights above the Sûre valley and is best known for its historic pilgrimage chapel. Built in the 14th century on older foundations, the chapel is considered Luxembourg’s oldest Marian pilgrimage site. Parts of historic frescoes are still preserved inside.
Together with the old, picturesque cemetery, the chapel forms a special place amid the rural landscape of the municipality of Rosport-Mompach. Its elevated position offers extensive views across the surrounding fields and into the Sûre valley.
Route 1 of the Mullerthal Trail passes directly by Girsterklaus. From here, the hiking trail descends into the Sûre valley towards Hinkel and continues through open landscapes and smaller wooded areas towards Born and Moersdorf. The pilgrimage chapel is one of the notable sights along Route 1.
