Monument by US-veterans

Where? Route de Diekirch, L-6590 Weilerbach

This monument commemorates the crossing of the river Sûre by the 5th U.S. Infantry Division during World War II.

On 7 February 1945, the 5th U.S. Infantry Division crossed the Sûre River here. Under heavy enemy fire and adverse weather conditions, their sacrifices contributed to the liberation of Luxembourg. If you cross the Sûre on foot and go over to the German side, you can still see the remains of a German machine gun bunker there.

The US memorial in Weilerbach dedicated to these units was erected in 1987.
