The Mullerthal Region is a unique natural landscape with forests, impressive rock formations and scenic hiking trails. To protect nature and ensure a safe experience for everyone, please follow these simple guidelines during your visit.
Respect nature
Help preserve the natural environment by following these basic rules:
- Stay on the marked paths.
- Keep dogs on a leash.
- Leave plants, flowers and wildlife undisturbed.
- Respect the peace and quiet of nature.
- Wild camping is not permitted. Please use designated campsites only.
- Take your litter home and help keep the forest clean.
- Riders and cyclists should use hard-surfaced paths where indicated.
Prepare your visit
A safe hike starts with good preparation.
Before setting off:
- Choose a hike that matches your fitness level, consdiering the distance, duration and difficulty. Keep in mind that many trails include steep ascents and descents, so the distance alone is not a good indication of hiking time.
- Wear weather-appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear.
- Some trails require good physical condition and sure-footedness.
Natural hazards and current conditions
Please be aware of the following natural hazards:
- Steep cliffs and the risk of falling.
- Rockfall.
- Slippery or uneven ground.
- Falling branches.
- Stairs, bridges and passages that might be slippery.
During prolonged periods of heat and drought, the forest becomes more vulnerable. Besides an increased risk of forest fires, weakened trees may unexpectedly lose branches or even break, even if they appear healthy.
For your own safety:
- Stay particularly alert, especially after storms or extended dry periods.
- Stay informed about the national weather warning system (“alerte jaune/rouge”). A red warning indicates that the utmost vigilance is required. Dangerous weather conditions of exceptional intensity are forecast.
- Whenever possible, take breaks in open areas away from trees.
- Remain on marked paths.
- Respect all temporary closures and safety measures.
- Avoid any activity that may create sparks or cause a fire. Barbecues are only permitted in designated areas.
