Memorial plaque for the liberation of Beaufort

Where? rue de l'église, L-6315 Beaufort

The memorial plaque attached to the church commemorates the liberation of Beaufort from the National Socialists.

The 5th and 9th US Armoured Divisions and the 5th US Infantry Division were involved in the liberation of Beaufort. The memorial plaque commemorates them. However, it incorrectly commemorates the 9th US Infantry Division instead of the 5th, but the 9th was never in Beaufort.

The inscription reads:

‘Honour to the 5th Arm Div 9th arm. div. - 9th inf. div. on the 50th anniversary of the Liberation - si hun ons d'Fraïheet erëmbruecht’ - ‘They brought us back our freedom’
