La Voix humaine
A Phone Rings. A Story Unfolds.
Choreographer Rhiannon Morgan and soprano Mária Devitzaki present a bold, interdisciplinary reinterpretation of Francis Poulenc and Jean Cocteau's La Voix Humaine. The production combines contemporary dance with opera singing to create a unique artistic language that breathes new life into the iconic character Elle.
.
The integration of voice and movement creates a powerful fusion, vividly conveying the protagonist's emotional depth. Approaching the iconic character from a clearly female perspective, this reinterpretation questions outdated role models, instead revealing her complexity and humanity. With new intensity, it sheds light on central, universal themes such as love, loss, abuse, manipulation and power.
Three performers bring this vision to the stage through an interplay of live piano music, contemporary dance, video projections and opera singing. These artistic elements merge to create a powerful, sensual experience that aims to captivate and challenge the audience in equal measure.
Artist-in-residence Rhiannon Morgan brings her experience of working with Akram Khan, Cocoon Dance and others to her choreography at TROIS C-L Maison de la Danse. Mária Devitzaki, a doctoral student in opera at the Department of Music, Science and Art at the University of Macedonia, combines scientific research with stage experience, continuously expanding her artistic expression. Her performances in Tokyo, including at Suntory Hall, demonstrate her versatility.
