The “Bildchen” near Berdorf was built in 1939 on the initiative of a priest. The rock niche with the Mater Dolorosa became a place of comfort during the war.
The erection of the “Bildchen” was due to the initiative of a priest in 1939. Two men from Berdorf were commissioned to find a place in the forest where a “Mater Dolorosa” could be erected.
They decided on a place near the old “Bildcheslay”, which explains the name “bäim Bildchen”. The two men then carved the niche in the rock where the Mater Dolorosa stands today. During the war years, many people from Berdorf came to this place to find comfort and strength. Until the 1990s, the inhabitants of the parish of Berdorf made a pilgrimage to this place in a procession.
