Nommern lies amid a varied landscape of forests, fields and impressive sandstone rocks. The village is particularly known for the rock formations of the Noumerleeën.
Nommern lies in the west of the Mullerthal Region and is particularly known for the impressive rocky landscape of the Noumerleeën. Numerous typical formations of Luxembourg sandstone can be found within a small area, including narrow rocky passages and overhangs. The remains of the Roman refuge fort Alebuerg are also located in this area.
Another striking rock formation is the “Champignon”, an unusually shaped block of Luxembourg sandstone.
Several hiking trails allow visitors to explore the varied landscape around Nommern. The Mullerthal Trail ExtraTour A leads through the Noumerleeën and connects Nommern with Larochette and Medernach.
The Local Hiking Trails N2 and N3 start in the village centre. N2 leads through the village and the surrounding forests and partly follows the former route of the narrow-gauge “Jhangli” railway. N3 leads through the typical rocky landscape of the Noumerleeën, past a chapel and through a small canyon before returning to Nommern.
Nommern is also home to Europacamping Nommerlayen, which offers accommodation for a longer stay in the region.
