Monument Nommern

Where? 31, rue Principale, L-7465 Nommern

The memorial was erected in memory of the eleven war victims of the municipality of Nommern.

The memorial is the work of the artists Marie-Josée Kerschen and Willem J.A. Bouter from Vianden and was commissioned by the municipal council of Nommern in 1993.

In the form of a full sculpture, the monument depicts a human being as a prisoner of a merciless social structure, a narrow-minded, frigid ideology. The figure is actually like a column, only the head is correctly modelled. The face depicts suffering and torture.

The stone sculpture is surrounded by steel rods that are bent over the figure's head and connected to each other. The person is depicted in captivity, from which it is impossible to escape.

The monument was inaugurated on 19 December 1993 in the presence of the then Hereditary Grand Duke Henri. (Text: Fernand Schmit)
