„Bësch am Krich - Krich am Bësch“
Where? N11, Route de Luxembourg - Melick, L-6412 Echternach
The aim of this event is to show ‘the forest in times of war and war in the forest’, and it took place for the last time on Saturday 5 July 2025 in Echternach.
It consists of a signposted route through the Erelchen forest, Mélick, near Echternach, where various stations have been set up, including bunkers, historic vehicles and exhibitions that show visitors the traces and repercussions of the Second World War on the inhabitants, nature and the environment.
The forest stations are as follows:
- Traces of war in the forest
- ‘Crossing the River Sauer’: the decisive American attack via the River Sauer
- Daily life for the civilian population during the occupation
- Grenades and explosives still found today
- Destruction and reconstruction of the town of Echternach
- Historic vehicles from the 2nd World War and remains of infantry posts
- The ‘Lëtzert’ Bunker or the hiding place of resistance fighters in the forest
- The monument to a plane that fell on 10. Mee 1940 on "Mélick
- Exhibition on equipment and material
The event is organised by the City of Echternach in cooperation with the Administration de la Nature et des Forêts, the Luxembourg Army, the Musée National d'Histoire Militaire de Diekirch, the Cercle d'Études sur la Bataille des Ardennes, the Section d'Echternach des Enrôlés de Force - Victimes du nazisme and Quadriga, Association des Collectionneurs de Véhicules Mili.
