The localities of the Mullerthal Region offer a blend of history, culture, and picturesque landscapes. Many villages have their unique charm. Aerenzdall

The municipality of "Aerenzdall" consists of the villages of Ermsdorf, Eppeldorf, Folkendange, Keiwelbach, Medernach, Stegen and Savelborn.

This part of the Mullerthal Region offers a mixture of rural tranquillity and a variety of leisure activities, including hiking trails and cultural events.

The surrounding area is characterised by natural monuments and historic buildings, ideal for visitors who appreciate nature and history in equal measure.

Beaufort

Beaufort is a locality in the Mullerthal Region that has grown a lot over the years. It is known for its history.

Visitors can explore by themselves the ruins of the medieval castle and have the possibility to visit the Renaissance castle, just next to it, on a guided tour.

Hikers can start Route 3 of the Mullerthal Trail or the ExtraTour B or any other local hike. The ice skating rink Beaufort Ice Park during winter and the open air pool Aqua Park during summer are perfect for sports' enthusiasts. The villages of Grundhof and Dillingen also belong to the municipality of Beaufort.

Bech

The municipality of Bech is made up of the villages of Bech, Altrier, Blumenthal, Geyershof, Graulinster, Hemstal, Hersberg, Kobenbour, Rippig and Zittig. The ancient narrow-gauge railway between Luxembourg-City and Echternach, 46 km long, operated by the famous train called “Charli” passed through Bech. The former tunnel in Bech had been transformed into a cycle path. Various hiking paths also pass through this tunnel. 

In Altrier you can find the Bildchen, a 500year old oak tree in the hollow trunk of which there is a niche housing a statue of the Virgin Mary. Every year on the evening of 15 August, many devotees of the Virgin Mary gather in Altrier for a candlelit procession. Bildchen is also set on Route 2 of the Mullerthal Trail. 

Berdorf

The locality of Berdorf is surrounded by most impressive rock formations. The Aquatower of Berdorf is a landmark, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding area and providing an exposition on water which you can visit. The Aquatower also hosts many events throughout the year.

One of the main attractions of Berdorf is Route 2 of the Mullerthal Trail, which passes through the surrounding forests and rock formations as well as many local hiking tracks. There is also a spectacular a mountain bike track relating Berdorf to Beaufort.

Berdorf is an ideal starting point for nature lovers and those seeking a peaceful retreat in the heart of the Mullerthal Region.

Consdorf

The locality of Consdorf in the Mullerthal Region is renowned for its peaceful ambiance and strong connection to nature.

In addition to Consdorf, the municipality also includes the villages of Scheidgen, Breidweiler, Colbette and Marscherwald. 

Consdorf is surrounded by extensive forests and rock formations. One of them is the pitch-black crevice called ‘Kuelscheier’, supplemented by the crevices of Rittergang and Déiwepëtz.

Cyclists can explore a variety of scenic routes, offering diverse landscapes and stunning views. Consdorf is an ideal starting point for hiking and nature experiences in the Mullerthal Region.

Echternach

Echternach, the oldest town in Luxembourg, founded in 698 by the Anglo-Saxon monk Willibrord, is the tourist and economic centre of the Mullerthal Region - Luxembourg's Little Switzerland.

History has left behind numerous architectural witnesses, which are amply documented on the ‘Via Epternacensis’, a cultural trail through the city and the museums.

The highlights of Echternach include the Romanesque Basilica, the ancient baroque Benedictine abbey with its abbey museum, the market square with the Denzelt and the municipal park with its rococo pavilion. The remains of the medieval towers are being let out as holiday flats. The lake of Echternach is a perfect place to walk, cycle, relax or swim during summer. There you will also discover the remains of Roman villa one of the biggest north of the Alps.

The famous Hopping Procession, UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage, takes place on Whit Tuesday..

Fischbach

Fischbach is a picturesque municipality in the Mullerthal Region and lies between the localities of Mersch and Larochette, on a hill between the Alzette valley and the valley of the White Ernz. Between 1820 and 1857, Fischbach was one of the country's industrial centres due to its steel production, which was based on ore mining.

Today, the village is best known for its hiking trails, like ExtraTour E of the Mullerthal Trail  and the Geosite Al Schmelz.

The municipality of Fischbach includes the villages of Angelsberg, Schoos and Koedange as well as the of Schiltzberg, Weyer and Stuppicht.

Heffingen

In the 1930s, a teacher from Heffingen undertook several archaeological excavations in collaboration with the Natural History Museum. To this day, there are numerous prehistoric and early historic finds, mainly from the Mesolithic and Neolithic periods. 

The skeleton of the ‘Loschburmann’ was discovered on the Loschbur cliff near Heffingen – it is around 8,000 years old and one of the oldest records of human history in Luxembourg. A reconstruction of the “Loschburmann” is on display at the National Museum of Natural History (MNHN) in Luxembourg City.

The site where the oldest Luxembourgian the “Loschburmann” was found, can be seen hiking on the local hike H1 starting in Heffingen. 

Mullerthal Trail Route 3 also passes Heffingen. You can start Route 3 in Heffingen-Soup, also known for its local cycle track.

Junglinster

The municipality of Junglinster enjoys a favourable location, nestled between the rock formations of the Mullerthal Region and the extensive forest area of the Grünewald.

The local hiking trail network includes over 200 kilometres of hiking trails. The Mullerthal Trail ExtraTour D is 31.5 km and offers a variety of scenery. If you like, you can make shortcuts. The ExtraTour connects the Mullerthal Trail with Bourglinster Castle and the former grand ducal gate.

The trail passes four villages, leads through the most beautiful areas of the municipality and - importantly for cultural tourists - passes the most historically interesting places and highlights of the municipality.

Larochette

Larochette is a small town with in its centre the Place Bleech with its cozy pubs, terraces, restaurants and shops.

The main attraction in Larochette is the castle located on a sandstone promontory 50 m above the Valley of the White Ernz.

The textile museum in the centre of Larochette recalls the moving history of the local textile industry.

The deep forests around Larochette invite you to discover the spectacular rock formations on local hikes, Route 3 of the Mullerthal Trail or ExtraTour E. 

Nommern

The village of Nommern is of Celtic origin, as evidenced by some archaeological finds, such as the ‘Lock’, a rock in the shape of a mushroom, and the ‘Aalburg’ in the Nommerlayen, a refuge to protect against invaders.

Forests, some with very old oak and beech trees, invite hikers to enjoy a relaxing experience in nature. 

On the route of the former narrow-gauge railway “Jhangli”, which was in use from 1882 to 1948, hikers can now hike the circular hiking trail N2 or discover the impressive rock formations of the Noumerleeën on the L4.

Reisdorf

Reisdorf is a village located in the Mullerthal Region, known for its picturesque setting along the Sûre River. Surrounded by lush forests and peaceful landscapes, Reisdorf offers a tranquil escape for visitors looking to connect with nature.

As there are local hiking trails as well as the Promenade du Souvenir, a reminder of World War II, the village is an ideal starting point for hiking enthusiasts. Cyclists also pass the village on the national cycle track PC3 towards Vianden or Echternach which also had been a former railway line.

Rosport-Mompach

The municipality of Rosport-Mompach is made of 15 villages.

Rosport is situated directly on the River Sûre and offers some leisure activities on the Sûre, which is dammed here. The landscape around Rosport with its possibilities for hiking and cycling tours makes all ‘active’ hearts beat faster. You can embark on Route 1 of the Mullerthal Trail taking you to Echternach or into the opposite direction to Girsterklaus Chapel and Mompach. The national cycle track also invites to discover both sides of Rosport.

The Tudor Castle and its park dating from 1892 - Henri Owen Tudor improved and commercialised the manufacture of lead accumulators -, the Tudor Museum and the tiny and most charming 12th century Girsterklaus Chapel represent the historic highlights of the municipality.

Rosport also has the only naturally carbonated mineral water spring in Luxembourg.

Waldbillig

The municipality of Waldbillig includes the villages of Waldbillig, Mullerthal, Haller and Christnach. Mullerthal literally meaning “Valley of the mills” is the village that gave its name to the whole region. 

The ‘Schiessentümpel’ cascade is certainly the most photographed motif in the region. Haller is a small flower village situated at the beginning of the romantic Halerbaach valley.

Waldbillig is the birthplace of Luxembourg's most famous writer, Michel Rodange.

Christnach is considered a model village due to its beautifully preserved village architecture.
