Where? 17, Rue du Village, L-6585 Steinheim

The memorial stands in front of the church in Steinheim and honours the victims of the Second World War from Steinheim.

The memorial bears the inscription ‘Victimes de la Guerre 1940-45’ - victims of the Second World War. Michel Hoffmann and his brother André Hoffmann, two brothers and deserters from the Wehrmacht, were shot by the field police on their way home in autumn 1944. Jean-Pierre Hauer died at the ‘Groussebësch’ in Osweiler from a German mine on 28 September 1944.

The names of the Jewish Nussbaum family, who had found refuge in Steinheim for six months after being forced to leave their farm in Echternach (15, Route de Luxembourg), are not inscribed on the stone. Gustav Nussbaum, born on 20 June 1886, his wife Fanny Israel, born on 20 October 1892, and their daughter Renée Nussbaum, born on 11 February 1922 in Echternach, were deported to the Litzmannstadt ghetto (Łódź / Poland) on 16 October 1941 and murdered there.
