Memorial Girsterklaus

Where? 7, Girsterklaus, L-6558 Rosport

A memorial stone to the victims of the Second World War from the villages of Girst and Hinkel stands in the old cemetery in Girsterklaus, next to the chapel.

The inscription says: ‘Gestuerwe fir d'Heemecht - 1940-45’. (Died for the homeland)

The memorial stone bears four names of residents from Girst and six names of residents from Hinkel who were missing or killed in action during the war.

Below the names is the last line of the ‘Heemecht’, Luxembourg's national anthem:

‘Looss viru blénken d'Fräiheetssonn’  (“Let the sun of freedom continue to shine”)
