Monument „HILL – 313"

Where? L-6562 Lauterborn

The memorial is a reminder of American soldiers

The small memorial remains a reminder of the soldiers who lost their lives here in the hilly terrain for the liberation of their Luxembourg homeland.

This boulder in Lauterborn commemorates the brave American soldiers who defended Hill 313 against the German Wehrmacht in December 1944, thereby stopping their advance towards Luxembourg City.

“Hill 313 was stragically important as the Germans launched their final assault (Battle of the Bulge). Unfortunately, the unit positioned on this hill was largely destroyed. However, their actions (and many other actions of US troops completely surprised by the German attack) slowed the Germans down just enough for Patton to bring in reinforcements and 'save Bastogne'. From the book "United States Army in WWII: The Ardennes: Battle of the Bulge by Hugh M Cole
