"Roude Léiw" rock
Where? Ponteschgronn, L-6250 Scheidgen
Picture with the inscription ‘Mir wölle bleiwe wat mir sin’
On a rock in the ‘Ponteschgronn’, you can find the carvings of an upright lion, as it is known from the Luxembourg coat of arms. Next to the lion figure, an inverted triangle with the names of 3 inhabitants from Scheidgen is engraved into the rock, who wanted to express their solidarity and friendship before they were forcibly recruited into the Wehrmacht by the Nazi regime.
The origin of the engravings in the rock lies in a homage chiselled into the rock by the inhabitants of Scheidgen to mark the 100th anniversary of Luxembourg's independence in 1939:
Mir wölle bleiwe wat mir sin („Wir wollen bleiben, was wir sind“)
1839 - 1939
